How does Semaglutide work?Semaglutide belongs to the class of medication known as GLP-1 receptor agonists. These agonists mimic the effects of the GLP-1 hormone that is normally produced by the small intestine. The GLP-1 hormone plays a central role in regulating appetite by communicating a sense of fullness to the brain, which in turn decreases appetite. Because the semaglutide medication is present in your body around the clock, the sum effect is to fool the appetite center of your brain into thinking that you are full most of the time. That is how your appetite is controlled and how you lose weight on this medication as part of a comprehensive weight management plan that includes diet and exercise.

How much weight can I lose?Weight loss is a very personal journey, and results will vary depending on the combination of your genetics, diet, and exercise. You can anticipate that your weight loss will be quicker, deeper, and more sustained if you incorporate good eating habits and an exercise program. Randomized studies on Semaglutide have demonstrated an average weight loss at one year of 15%. However, there is a wide range of outcomes, ranging from minimal weight loss to >20% weight loss. Randomized studies on Tirzepatide have demonstrated an average weight loss at one year of 20%. However, there is a wide range of outcomes, ranging from minimal weight loss to >20% weight loss.

How does Tirzepatide work?Tirzepatide works for weight loss by a dual mechanism: In addition to the aforementioned GLP-1 agonist pathway, Tirzepatide also activates the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptors in the brain. GIP is a hormone that is also produced in the small intestine, and recent studies indicate that this hormone may be involved in regulating energy expenditure and fat metabolism. Thus, Tirzepatide may be involved in both the regulation of appetite and how energy is utilized in the body. It's important to note that the exact mechanisms of Semaglutide's and Tirzepatide’s weight-loss effects are still being studied and elucidated.
