When starting a medicine or even considering taking a medicine you are bound to have questions. While your health care provider is always the best source for answers, you may also find some help below.

  • Does Insurance cover the cost?
We do not accept insurance of any form. If you think your insurance will cover similar medications the best thing to do is call them to find out. HSA plans vary but many patients have been able to use them to pay for the medication.
  • Who is eligible for Semaglutide and Tirzepatide?
The ultimate decision rests with the prescribing physician. Nevertheless, in our clinic, a BMI exceeding 27 kg/m2 is a prerequisite for treatment. There are several contraindications for Semaglutide and Tirzepatide including, but not limited to, the following: a medical history of Thyroid Tumors, Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia, Pancreatitis, or those who are pregnant or planning pregnancy in the near future. If you have a specific question regarding eligibility, please contact the clinic at 406-901-2600 or schedule a consultation call.
  • How does Semaglutide work?
Semaglutide belongs to the class of medication known as GLP-1 receptor agonists. These agonists mimic the effects of the GLP-1 hormone that is normally produced by the small intestine. The GLP-1 hormone plays a central role in regulating appetite by communicating a sense of fullness to the brain, which in turn decreases appetite. Because the semaglutide medication is present in your body around the clock, the sum effect is to fool the appetite center of your brain into thinking that you are full most of the time. That is how your appetite is controlled and how you lose weight on this medication as part of a comprehensive weight management plan that includes diet and exercise.
  • How much weight can I lose?
Weight loss is a very personal journey, and results will vary depending on the combination of your genetics, diet, and exercise. You can anticipate that your weight loss will be quicker, deeper, and more sustained if you incorporate good eating habits and an exercise program. Randomized studies on Semaglutide have demonstrated an average weight loss at one year of 15%. However, there is a wide range of outcomes, ranging from minimal weight loss to >20% weight loss. Randomized studies on Tirzepatide have demonstrated an average weight loss at one year of 20%. However, there is a wide range of outcomes, ranging from minimal weight loss to >20% weight loss.
  • What side effects are associated with Semaglutide and Tirzepatide?
Both Tirzepatide and Semaglutide, when used for weight loss, may have side effects. It's important to note that individual responses can vary, and not everyone will experience these side effects. The most common side effects associated with semaglutide are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation. Typically, these side effects are mild and resolve on their own or with the use of over-the-counter medications or supplements. If these symptoms are refractory or persistent, it is likely that you will not be a good candidate for continuing the medication.
  • How fast will I see results?
The effects of taking these medications should start soon after taking the shot. Many patients report feeling the effects the same day.

  • How does Tirzepatide work?
Tirzepatide works for weight loss by a dual mechanism: In addition to the aforementioned GLP-1 agonist pathway, Tirzepatide also activates the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptors in the brain. GIP is a hormone that is also produced in the small intestine, and recent studies indicate that this hormone may be involved in regulating energy expenditure and fat metabolism. Thus, Tirzepatide may be involved in both the regulation of appetite and how energy is utilized in the body. It's important to note that the exact mechanisms of Semaglutide's and Tirzepatide’s weight-loss effects are still being studied and elucidated.
